Many strongmen performed The Human Link Feat but around 1920, The Amazing Samson upped the ante by a bunch. He not only held back a pair of draught horses, he also bent a steel bar over his leg at the same time! Amazing indeed. It should also probably be mentioned that he accomplished this feat as a result of a bet.

One of the feats that Alexander Zass performed in his strength act was to break chains with his hands. "Samson" would let an audience member choose a specific link then twist it back and forth with the strength of his hands until it weakened and broke. (In this case it was the sixth link in the chain.) This twisting caused the chain to become so hot that Samson's fingers ended up blistered afterward but the amazing feat did bring the house down every time - the price of show business!

Human cannon acts have long been a feature attraction with circuses. Only Alexander Zass, known as 'The Amazing Samson', performed a version of this dramatic center ring spectacle that has never been duplicated. This European strongman star executed the cannon act so that his agile brawn replaced the net in catching his partner as she was catapulted across the arena.

The great Russian strongman Alexander Zass a.k.a The Amazing Sampson bending a steel rod in his teeth. Many of the oldtime strongmen bent steel as a part of their act since it was a feat many members of the audience could more easily relate to.

Alexander Zass: The Amazing SamsonAs far as Oldtime Strongmen go, few were more impressive than Alexander Zass.
Bending or breaking nails, twisting horse shoes, driving nails, supporting feats, scrolling steel, breaking chains, carrying horses, -- he did it all.
The Amazing Samson attributed much of his strength to isometric training.
