Another classic shot of Steve Reeves as the mythical Hercules. It is a little known fact that Steve did all his own stunts in his movies, including the horse riding and chariot scenes -- this came as a relief to the directors he worked with, after all, finding a stunt double for Steve Reeves would not have been easy!

Simon Javierto of the Phillipines was one of Earle E. Liederman's top students and learned strength training entirely through Liederman's mail order course. I would also say that Javierto also possessed one of the most impressive physiques of all time, even more so considering he only weighed around 145 lbs.

Here's a look at Staff Sgt. Moss from about a hundred years ago. He actually placed very poorly in some early physique contests... As you can see his physical condition was superlative, it was the tattoos on his arms from his travels around the world that the judges did not like and marked him down for!

One of the all-time great physiques belonged to Bobby Pandour of Poland. He was an excellent at muscle control as well as hand balancing so much so that he performed an act with his brother Ludovic in the Ringling Brothers Circus in the early 1900's

There's no question that Eugen Sandow was quite impressive in the physique department. It certainly was not all for show, though, Sandow had quite a few impressive strength feats to his credit. For example, Sandow was able to perform an overhead press with a 126 lb dumbbell in the right hand and 119 lbs in the left (total 245 lbs.), a 269 lb bent press and a 180 lb. one arm snatch.

Steve Reeves, the 1947 Mr. America shows why he was known as THE Classic Physique. Reeves' favorite exercises for building his 23-1/2" wide shoulders were lateral raises and the behind-the-neck press.

| You can see why they say Steve Reeves has the classic physique -- he looked like a Greek statue brought to life. He was also one of the most successful bodybuilders of all time, winning almost every contest he entered including the 1947 AAU Mr. America title. Reeves trained at the York Barbell Club in York, PA for the 1950 NABBA Mr. Universe contest (which he won.) While there, John Grimek, watched him train, and later wrote an article about what he saw in the November, 1964 issue of Muscular Development Magazine. | Steve Reeves |
