The Great Paul Anderson is shown here, just miliseconds away from making a heavy clean. I count 345 lb. on the bar, which was pretty light for "Big Paul". Also note the wrist braces, Paul was so strong in some movements that sometimes his body couldn't take it. I can't say for sure, but Isuspect that Big Paul likely would have benefittted greatly from some epecific wrist strength work.

Roy Hilligenn | Roy Hilligenn Mr. America 1951 and 1952 Jr. Light-heavy weightlifting champ is a strongman athlete of rare ability. Here he is in mid-clean with Ed Yarick's 142-pound dumbbells while weighing less than 180 pounds himself. The average man would be lucky to clean a pair of 100's. These are the same dumbbells that John Davis is cleaning and pressing here. |

Steve Stanko Cleans 370 PoundsThe Mighty Steve Stanko showing the form that allowed him to become the first man to officially total over 1000 pounds in the three Olympic Lifts and the first American to snatch 300 pounds.
The shot was taken during a workout in 1940. A year later Stanko went on to break the 1000 pound barrier. (His bodyweight at the time was only 220 pounds.)
