  • Sergio Oliva Olympic Weightlifting

  • Like many bodybuilders in the 60's, Sergio Oliva got his start in Olympic Weightlifting. In fact, he did well enough to compete for his native Cuba at the 1962 Pan-Am games. Though he was very strong, his Olympic lifting ability was actually hampered by his thin waist.

The foundation built by Olympic lifting served Sergio well in his bodybuilding career though. Oliva went on to win the Mr. Olympia Contest in 1967, 1968 and 1969.

  • Moore's Squat Bar

  • 1959 AAU Mr. America winner Harry Johnson demonstrates Moore's Squat Bar, a unique piece of equipment often advertised in the old Iron Man Magazine that eliminates much of the discomfort of squatting.

    Look familar?

The rights were eventually purchased by multiple-time Mr. Olympia winner Frank Zane, and re-released as the Frank Zane Leg Blaster (which is still available today.)

  • Sergio Oliva: The Myth

  • Sergio Oliva: The MythIs there any question as to why Sergio Oliva was known as "The Myth?"

Here's a simple, casual shot playing pool with friends. Even though there may be bodybuilders these days with bigger arms there has never been nor will there ever be anyone more physically impressive that Sergio Oliva.

He was simply blessed with the greatest genetics of all time.

In addition to several other titles he won the Mr. Olympia title three times:(1967, 1968, 1969)

  • The Sandow Statue

  • The Sandow StatueThe Sandow Statue

Just over a century ago, Eugen Sandow held the very first physique contest known simply as "The Great Competition." The first place prize for this contest was a magnificent gold statue of Sandow himself, holding a globe dumbbell.

In 1977, the promoters of the Mr. Olympia contest decided to honor Sandow and Bodybuilding's past and resurrected this statue as their first place trophy -- which it has become most well known as today. (The first Mr. Olympia Sandow Statue winner was Frank Zane.)
