  • The York Leg Press Machine

  • Five decades ago, the "Leg Press" meant something entirely different. This "Leg Press Machine" from The York Barbell Company was a way to circumvent a few of the issues normally associated with heavy squatting. Note the other pieces of York Barbell training ephemera: The Calflex, Aristocrat Dumbbells, kettlebell handles, Dumbbell handles and the York Chest Crusher.

  • The Hammer Strength Leg Press

  • The Hammer Strength Leg Press is the very best leg press that I've ever used. This machine can also be an excellent alternative to the squat for building leg strength. Consider yourself lucky if you can find one though.

  • The Leg Press

  • Sig Klein came up with a number of innovative training ideas. One day he took the board he had often used for the Tomb of Hercules Feat, chained it to the wall and devised an early version of the "Leg Press" machine.

He eventually discarded this design as the resistance decreased too much at the top of the movement due to the physics involved.
