An Ages-Old Strength TraditionIn his classic book Big Arms, the "Father of American Weightlifting," Bob Hoffman, wrote the following:"In the York Barbell gym there is a big rope suspended from the beam of the ceiling. Most of the York lifters at some time will take their turn at climbing it... All the star lifters are good rope climbers and can climb a rope with their legs at right angles from the body and with considerable distance between each fresh hand grip."Many of the Oldtime strength stars included rope climbing in their training, and Bob knew that the upper body strength that rope climbing developed would come in very useful for his lifters. He was right - his "York Gang" of lifters won multiple National, World, and Olympic Championships under his tutelage. Did you know that rope climbing is one of the oldest forms of physical training? It goes back at least as far as Ancient Greece and likely even earlier than that. Climbing ropes were (and still are) popular for military training; the tremendous upper-body strength and endurance that it develops come in very useful in combat situations. You'll find the benefits of rope climbing written among the writings of the Ancient Greeks as they prepared themselves for war, and in the dying art of Kushti - traditional Indian Wrestling training... rope climbing even used to be an Olympic Sport. A. The Shackle: The most important part of any climbing rope is the shackle -
the only thing keeping the rope secured during use. When it comes to that component, you don't want to consider having anything less than the best.

B. Materials: The superior quality 3-strand 1 1/2" diameter pure "Grade A" manila fiber
used to fashion these indoor climbing ropes is two grades in quality above the already stringent government standard.
This manila is also specially treated to absorb perspiration for increased durability and the best possible grip.
C. Polyboot End: To prevent unraveling, the free end of the rope is wrapped in a synthetic "polyboot," keeping your rope safe and secure through many, many uses. Many Ways to Train - Many Ways to Build StrengthAs simple as a climbing rope is, you can use it to build strength in a number of ways.1. Climbing - The traditional method. Spice things up a bit by climbing without your feet, with two ropes - one in each hand, or even upside down if you can manage it. There are several other variations besides these... 2. Static Holds - Climb a few inches off the ground and hold for time, or practice any number of movements such as hanging leg raises, chin-ups, and more. Build strength or build flexibility depending on how you train. In addition to what was mentioned earlier, Bob Hoffman also wrote: "The act of hanging alone on a rope has a tendency to normalize the backbone if out of adjustment. It promotes growth, increases the height, deepens the chest, makes the waist more muscular and slender, and builds the pectorals and shoulders as well as all parts of the arm. It brings into play the entire Biceps and the deeper lying Brachialis Anticus and Coracobtrachialis."3. Overhead Pulley Work - If your ceiling isn't high enough to climb, you can still get a great workout with a climbing rope. Hook it up to your favorite low or high pulley and perform many unique movements. 4. Pulling and Dragging - Using the steel shackle, hook your rope up to a dragging sled for a great upper body workout. |

Our indoor 1.5 inch manila climbing ropes come in five standard lengths: 15, 18, 20, 22, and 24 feet, though
we can customize for any length you need. The general rule of thumb when selecting a rope length is
to have 4 extra feet on the floor so if the measurement from floor to your attachment point is 20 feet, it would be best to go with a 24 foot rope.
We also have several different options as far as rest knots, material, and climbing attachment hardware. We can even do tug-of-war ropes if that is something you might be interested in. Just let us know and we can get you exactly what you're looking for. Custom ropes (those with knots, special lengths, etc.) will require a 24 business day lead time.
