Question: What is the appropriate amount of padding that I should have under me when I climb ropes?

Answer:

A good rule of thumb is 6 inches of padding for every 10 feet of rope. Obviously the more padding the better as you want to observe the proper training precautions at all times. Please refer to the following illustration to see what an ideal setup would look like:
