What The Old Time Strongmen Used to Build Frightening Forearm Strength

Introducing the Ultimate Old-School Grip Strength Training Tool Now Infused with Modern Technology

"They think they're getting stronger but they're just fooling themselves," he said. "You aren't building real strength unless you're adding weight AND increasing the diameter of the bar you're using."

That's what Vic Boff said to me the last time I saw him. Vic was the president of the Association of Old Time Barbell and Srongmen and he would know; as a young man he had worked for Warren Lincoln Travis, Joe Bonomo, and many of the other well known names in Old Time Strongman Lore.

He was also quite a strongman himself in his day... and his message is 100% right on the money, thicker handled equipment will build incredible strength, not just in the grip and forearms, but everywhere else too.
Milo Steinborn

Old-Time Strongmen had a long tradition of using thick handled equipment and almost all the famous "challenge" weights have a thicker than average handles - The Railway Wheels of Apollon, The Thomas Inch Dumbbell, The Rolandow Barbell, The Harry Schaffron challenge weight... and far too many more to list.

In the early days, there was no such thing as a "standard" barbell and quality training equipment was often hard to come by. (You couldn't just go to the local sporting goods store and pick up a weight set.)

The Old Time Strongmen either had to have their equipment custom-made or improvise and fashion most of their equipment out of what they could find in marine salvage or scrap yards. This made for some interesting equipment, and the challenge weights mentioned above have some very interesting history behind them.

Thick Bar Training Enters the 21st Century

The Black Iron Strength line is devoted to innovation - while it may (or may not) be true that there is "nothing new under the sun," many already-established training concepts can be improved upon to an incredible degree... new materials, new technology, and a new dimension in your training.

Enter, The Black Iron Strength Olympic Thick Bars

It's going to take quite a lot for anything to be considered The Best but the Black Iron Strength Thick bars are unquestionably the finest thick bars ever made.
If you want to know what makes the Black Iron Strength Line stand out, we can start with the patent pending rotating sleeve (a feature found on no other brand of thick bar).

This feature gives the Black Iron Strength Bars a "feel" like no other. Many dynamic movements, which are extremely difficult to perform with a non-rotating bar, can be done with these bars much more efficiently. - No more sprained wrists when doing any "pulling" movements.

The Black Iron Rotation System
Each Black Iron Strength thick bar is designed, engineered, and manufactured right here in the USA and held to standards far above the industry norm. Only the highest quality components and machined parts go into the making of these bars. Each one is a true work of art.

There are 9 different sizes/styles of Black Iron Strength Thick Bars - seven options at the 6' 6" length, and two options at the 7' length - and other custom options are also available. Now you will be able to progress in your routine with regards to weight, reps, and sets or bar diameter.

Unlike many solid thick bars, Black Iron Thick Bars are designed and engineered to "manageable weights" so that all normal barbell movements can be performed effectively.

Solid thick bars are often too heavy to allow effective performance of many valuable exercises such as curls, reverse curls, and other pulling movements.

They also feature a high quality Black-oxide finish on the gripping surface which keeps your bars looking fresh, will prevent rusting and what will make these bars virtually maintenance free. (A five year limited warranty comes with each Thick Bar and on all Black Iron products.)

Perfect for Power Rack Work

In the classic, modern training book Dinosaur Training, Brooks Kubik advocates, several movements performed in a power rack with a thick bar, most notably bench pressing with 3" thick bar from the bottom position. The Black Iron Thick Bars feature a standard 52-inch collar-to-collar measurement, the same as a standard Olympic Barbell, which makes these bars perfect for power rack work.

The bar diameter and weight are permanently engraved on each bar end for quick identification by all athletes.

Unlike decorative chrome (which tends to flake and chip with regular use), the high-quality satin hard chrome sleeve ends of Black Iron Thick Bars are milled to the Olympic Standard of 1.95 inches and are guaranteed to fit your Olympic plates.

Experience The Difference That Quality Makes

There is a rule of thumb when it comes to strength equipment - you get what you pay for. If you get a deal on a piece of equipment that seems "too good to be true" then it probably is. The truth is, what you'll really be getting is an inferior product which will bend, break, or fall apart even during normal use.

The level of precision workmanship and quality that goes into creating these bars makes them flat-out the best thick bars ever made. They will handle everything you can throw at them and more.

Think of these bars as an investment - used properly you will get great results from them AND you will be able to pass them on to your children and grand-children.

Black Iron Strength Thick Bars are currently being used in the training programs of many of the top professional and collegiate teams, including:

The University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Penn State University, Texas A&M University, The Ohio State University, The University of Washington, The Seattle Seahawks, The Minnesota Vikings, The Jacksonville Jaguars and more joining up every day.
