Hack Miller – The Baseball Strongman

Laurence H. “Hack” Miller was a pretty decent baseball player who spent a few seasons with the Chicago Cubs in the 1920’s. On August 25, 1922, Miller hit two 3-run home runs to help the Cubs beat the Phillies 26–23 in the highest-scoring game in major league history. “Hack” got his nickname thanks to his resemblance to the popular wrestler and strongman George Hackenschmidt.
This also isn’t his only connection to strongman lore, Hack Miller’s father was the great strongman Sebastian Miller. The apple didn’t fall too far from the tree, in addition to giving some teammates a “lift” as shown above, “Hack” Miller could tear deck of cards and bend spikes just like his old man. He also used to wield a 47-ounce bat and occasionally used a bat weighing 65 ounces (which is utterly ridiculous, and wouldn’t even be legal today).
