Guy Gibby ~ The Hollywood Superman

Posted on Wednesday, November 8th, 2017 by John Wood
Guy Gibby was a vaudeville performer known as “The Hollywood Superman” — he first claimed that he was the original inspiration for comic book “Superman” … then that he was the voice of Superman on the radio … and eventually that he would play Superman in a Hollywood movie (but that obviously never came to pass.) Be that as it may, Gibby did have an impressive athletic resume as a hand-0balancer, acrobat, weightlifter, boxer (amateur Welterweight champ of Michigan) and strongman. Gibby did many traditional strongman feats, breaking chains, tug of war with 20 people, etc he also had a strong set of choppers, as shown above. He once performed the above feat at the intermission of the 1946 AAU Mr. America contest.
